As this club's motto goes, you will 'Fly it, love it, live it' when you go microlighting in Perth! There's something really quite exciting about these flexwing aircraft. You might think they are 'back to basics', but they are actually incredibly manoeuvrable, reliable and so lightweight that they are dream to pilot. You will be cloud surfing with Scotland's beautiful Cairngorms National Park as your backdrop. As you swoop over the rolling hills and the peaks, you will have an amazing view, made all the more real by that open cockpit feel of these microlights. Perth airport is your starting point for this foray into the big blue stuff and this is how your day will go… First up, you'll be glad to hear your club is a fully registered and greatly respected flight training school for those who want to become microlight pilots. Secondly, their Perth aerodrome home boasts all the facilities (from fully operational control tower, to large hangar with experienced maintenance engineers) to be a very comfortable place to fly from. Thirdly, the team here is fun, friendly and has a great sense of humour, along with a serious enthusiasm for their beloved aerial sport of microlighting. All the pre-flight formalities out of the way (which might well include a model of a microlight to demonstrate how these things get into and stay in the air!) you will head out to meet your flexwinged-beast that'll be propelling you high above the skies of Perth. This school uses the Pegasus Quik and Quantum craft, both renowned for being lightweight, sporty, well-equipped and easy to fly. Flying suit and helmet on, you'll hop into the front seat (yes, you get the best seat in the house!) and radio to control for your take off slot. Perth has three runways to choose from, so microlights will take off from whichever is in use at the time of your flight (usually down to weather and other General Aviation traffic). With the large rotor blades whirring behind you, it is pretty noisy, but you'll have a headset on so you can communicate with your pilot - essential for pointing out tourist hotspots from the air and for explaining what to do when you take the controls. Yes, that's right. If you're game for getting hands on with this ultra light aviation lark, you will be able to on these Perth-based microlighting lessons! We think you'll be surprised how simple the controls are, but also how sporty and reactive they can be too. Of course, if you prefer to just enjoy the ride that's fine too - and you'll see things like the River Tay as it widens out at Dundee, the gorgeous lochs around Pitlochry and Friarton Bridge on the southern outskirts of Perth - all from the privileged viewpoint of your microlight. What we love about microlighting at Perth Airport is that flights are offered year round. That means you can choose to fly over the snow-capped mountains on a crisp and clear winter's morning, or soak up the last of the summer sun on an evening flight in July in these modern, well-maintained flex wing microlights. We can feel freedom in the air!
